Here's a 5 pack of trains for your weekend viewing pleasure!
First today, NS 9804, a GE C44-9W that was originally built as a C40-9W, but was uprated from 4,000 hp to 4,400.
Norfolk Southern is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia,
Here we have RNCX 1797 "City of Asheville", an EMD F59PHI built in December of 1998.
These are owned and operated by the NCDOT, who're headquartered in Raleigh, NC.
On the NCDOT, the loco number coincides with the loco name, in the form of the number being the year the city was founded.
Also, from what I understand, the large white star is emblematic of NC being one of the original 13 colonies. Seems a little odd to have such a thing on a locomotive...
Another NS unit, this one 1811, an EMD SD70ACC. It was built in May 1995 as NS 2504, an SD70. NS rebuilt it with a new safety cab, electrical system, and changed the traction from DC to AC.
From Union Pacific we have UP 6779, a GE AC4400CW built in May of 1996..
UP is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
I always like seeing "foreign" power around here - though It'd be nice if they were leading instead of trailing.🙄
Lastly, another NS unit, this time 722, an EMD RP-E4C. It was built in May of 1971 as a GP38AC for Southern as SOU 2834, then became NS 2834. NS rebuilt it into what we see here, an engineless slug. As built, it would've had a high hood, which NS "chopped" to the current short hood.
We had to chase this one for a while to get a good shot - and we got a wave and a toot!
As always, thanks very much for looking, and I hope you enjoyed!
Nice photography in particular the NS 9804 you captured all the details
